LONDON EAR: In a Sleeping Mood.

We're proud to announce our latest project "London Ear" which will aim to introduce on the last day of every month promising new artists and up&coming projects.

"Sharing Is Caring" states the Pirate Party UK poster on the wall of Mauro Polito's, aka Pour Atom Oil, East London room/home studio where joined by Donato Panaccio, the other half of the duo In a Sleeping Mood, they work on their year-long project, Diluted Sounds.
Firm believers that all music is important, these Italian friends took us on a trip down memory lane where we revisited their past projects and accomplishments.

It all started in Rome, somewhere along december 2007, Mauro and Donato were both Musicology students in the Universitá di Roma Tor Vergata, but only met when Polito's post-rock band was looking for a guitarist and a common friend introduced them to each other. The connection was uncanny and they soon started to jam away in Panaccio's room thus starting the In a Sleeping Mood journey. In 2008 they released their debut album, self-titled, which was a compilation of miscellaneous sonic moments that mostly relied on acoustic instruments and that ended up being released on a japanese netlabel.

When the electronic side started to take over (I mean, how can listening to Karlheinz Stockhausen not influence your creativity??) they started to rethink their creative process. Recording Donato's beard to eventually electronically manipulate it and make it sound like the sea was just one of the bold techniques these madmen were willing to try.

In a Sleeping Mood also started to record soundtracks for short movies and independent movies.
In october 2009 IASM started working on "Nebula", their second EP, which was eventually released on an italian netlabel called Anomolo. As the recording passion started to hit, Mauro moved to London to study Audio Engineering at SAE and Donato stayed in Rome to finish his studies but soon after graduating he too moved to London, joining Mauro in his course. With a fresh new start came fresh new ideas and so the band released their third EP, "Draft" (2011), which was released on the italian netlabel Yo! for free.

The duo is of the opinion that there's no such thing as a "right direction" because if you limit yourself to go in just that one direction you'll be excluding the infinite possibilities of being left in the unknown. I'm sure that is one of the reasons why they're so into people who think outside of the box and are able to see the big picture just because they're open to everything. One person who surely played a big role in these guys youth was the legendary music theorist John Cage, who was a pioneer on the fields of electroacoustic music and many others.

In a Sleeping Mood is celebrating today their first complete month of their new project "Diluted Sounds" and who better to explain the project than themselves:

"Diluted Sounds" is a set of 365 sonic moments diluted whithin a year. Each of these sound sketches will be supported by either an image a video or a text .Due to that what will be created is an synaesthetic work whose goal is to go beyond the contemporary idea of 'consumer art'. Our aim is to get people to free themselves from the aesthetic canons induced by the media in order to favor art as 'pure choice'. The concept of the sound dilution emphasizes on the importance of the 'detail' which must be considered both as a distinct element and as part of a complex concentration of elements."

Rhye Mix for "The Fader"

The two men from Rhye made a very intimate mix for The Fader.

 The Fader magazine invited the L.A. based duo, Mike Milosh and Robin Hannibal, to create a mix with some of their favourite music. They didn't blend the tracks, as dj's usually do, as The Fader points out, but the 1 hour set is impressive and the tracks really express Rhye's music: sensual and intimate. Mr Jack Is On 1º Anniversary!

It all began a year ago, 12 January 2012. A great love for music and the lifestyle around it led Duarte Catela to the creation of a little blog called Mr Jack Is On.

And to celebrate this special day we have a few notes to announce:

  • First of all Mr Jack Is On would like to thank the one and only Carolina Flores (head of Last Minute Dreams) for polishing Mr Jack's look by creating new logos and visuals;
  • Secondly, as you may have noticed already we made some visual changes at the website to make it more user friendly. Nevertheless, they're not completed and over the next week there may be more changes;
  • Also over this year we will continue, to report concerts, events and festivals around Lisbon and Portugal (Our main base is Lisbon). Expect a lot more photos and show reviews from now on
  • And last but not least Mr Jack would like to announce its newest addition to the crew, Joao Poppe Toulson, who will be telling us all about London's up&coming artists and representing MJO in person at all kinds of weird events thus spreading the word of Jack.
Starting now, Mr Jack Is On is a Lisbon and London based website. And our geographic coverage may grew in the next months..

Mr Jack Is On would like to thank all the friends, family, fans, colaborators, artists, that helped us to spread our brand all over the world. Without you, none of this would be possible.

To finish, you can listen again our latest mixtape and check out Mr Jack Is On links through the Internet. ENJOY!!
